Corona-cation

As we begin to navigate these changing-by-the-minute times, I try to remember that a new normal will soon arise. A natural routine will develop and if I’m lucky, I just may discover something as awesome as gravity as Sir Isaac Newton did during his plague-cation.

Not sure I will make that kind of contribution to the world, but I can definitely say that I have mastered the homeschooling schedule while also maintaining sanity and employment. When I wrote my 2020 goals, a mere 90-days ago, I never planned for this. I had such hope for you, 2020! We were all rooting for you! Then you show up and show out like this. Your mother would not be proud. Yet here we find ourselves, swiftly trying to make whiskey sours from lemons.

In addition to maintaining sanity, and keeping the mini humans alive, here are some musings to help make this time not only effective, but a cherished chapter in your story.

Step 1: Figure out what end is up.

Step 2: Determine what you need less of.

Step 3: Determine what you need more of!

Step 4: Find your old dream list. You know the one. The one where you wrote down all the things you said you’d do. All the things you’ve never had the time to do. That list!

Step 5: Seize this season of life for the rare gift that it is. You have been given the most precious gift in life’s Santa sack: time

Adapt. This is where the self-help book would say “Get comfortable being uncomfortable.” Immediately accept that your days will feel different. They will flow differently. And that’s ok! In many ways you will have more time on your plate to invest in The List, while in many other ways, you will have less time on your plate as you divide your attention between family, kids and health. This is your new normal and it’s where you will thrive! Adjust your schedule as needed. Give yourself grace as needed. But never give yourself a pass. This is corona-cation, not a vacation!

Practice. During this time, you will find yourself doing things you’ve likely never done before. It will take practice to get good at them. Welcome to being a beginner, again! But, you got this! Stick with it. Tweak as needed. Exhale as needed. But do something awesomeduring this time!
